Camille Tan

Camille Tan works with natural and artificial materials through a process of collecting, observation, and experimentation. Without a predefined plan, she creates mobiles based on a play of weights, adjustments, and tensions, seeking a balance between calculation and randomness while revealing the material’s inner structure and the memory of time.

Camille Tan (born in 1990) is an artist and designer based in Brussels. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes and the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, he has spent over fifteen years exploring the space between art installation, design, and craft. He creates furniture and mobiles with fluid, organic shapes that reveal history and the imprint of time on materials.

Inspired by nature and his practice of rock climbing, he makes mobiles suspended between gravity and lightness, where balance becomes a language and transformation a constant. Made from found artefacts, stone, metal, wood, and archaeological objects, each element carries memory. His works reveal invisible forces shaping our environment, forming living, moving presences that invite reflection on tension, fragility, and the passage of time.

He favors a poetic, intuitive, and handcrafted approach, letting intuition guide the making. Exhibited widely in Belgium and internationally, notably in Brussels, New York, and Paris, he continues to explore transformation and the interplay of forces, treating the object not as a product, but as a living presence in motion. His work reconsiders the relationship between design and sculpture, and between utilitarian and decorative forms.
