Danneels + Zafiro
DANNEELS + ZAFIRO is a cabinetmaking studio and design practice founded in 2022 by Hugo Danneels and Julie Figueroa Zafiro. Their work sits between craftsmanship and design, driven by a desire to reconnect with making by hand and with a conscious, deliberate approach to creation.
The encounter between wood and fire marked the starting point of their practice. Scales, cracks, charcoal, deep black tones: fire radically transforms the material. Seeking to arrest this moment of metamorphosis has become an ongoing field of exploration and fascination.
As the wood burns, a subtle dialogue emerges between the maker and the flames. The material is altered and consumed, revealing in each piece a distinct and unrepeatable expression.
Today, their research is guided by the dialogue between materials. Through the creation of furniture and lighting, they develop combinations that engage the senses and evoke emotion, opening a poetic path where contrasts invite a contemplative and tactile experience, and where each material affirms its own singular presence.
