Maison Muz

The initial intention was to find a personal language to express intimacy, my inner world. Clay naturally presented itself, offering me a great freedom and a connection I had experienced as a child. Maison Muz was born. Exploring the art of glaze became as important as the form of a piece; it's a rigorous and challenging process that fosters humility and tenacity. It's a way to remain connected to the world without being completely consumed by it.

There is a way of speaking about oneself that never leaves the artwork, a voice born in the studio, from the very place of “making,” and which acts as raw material just like the sentence, the color, the gesture, the rhythm.

This is how “dépaysage” (a play on words combining “dépaysage,” meaning “landscape,” and “landscape”) was born: a way of understanding things, clay in hand, water as an accomplice, fire as a necessary element.

For me, it is about extracting the essence of the landscape to transcribe its singular beauty through infusions of rocks and ashes gathered and carefully assembled into unique glazes. The pieces are as if “incomplete,” balanced, always fragile, raw too; calling for the caress of the hand that made them, the hand that will choose them.

Creating a bond of empathy between the objects and those who look at them. Having fun, through clay, with joy and loving sensitivity, creating large-scale, unique, and singular pieces.

It’s about treating and shaping the clay as one would write a poem; moreover, the finished pieces are then named, like haikus.

Clay, as language, a thread woven from a shared humanity. The studio is conceived as a refuge, a place of expression, of fragments, of drawings, a truly tender space for creative impulses, open to other possibilities.

The idea is to create connections with other artists: painters, writers, etc., in order to exchange ideas and enrich one another.

Experiencing beauty is a beautiful reason to live.
