When wool becomes art
From breeding to design, from shearing to knitting, Studio Arcadie has chosen an integrated, global approach in direct contact with nature. At home in the Vallée de Chevreuse, we are guided by our own flock of Merino sheep.
The daily work of our team is carried out at the rhythm of the animals, with the commitment to take the opposite path to mass industry – a chain of local, short, controlled and ethical production.
Our conviction: Merino wool is not just a raw material, it’s a cultural heritage, and by caring for our lambs, we fully embrace the challenges of wool production. Through this experience, we play an active role in the evolution of the French livestock industry towards better breeding methods and more value-added wool.
The material is here, with us, we know it, we live with it. After a long history and the abandonment of this sector in France in favor of sheepmeat, our vocation is to re-establish research in the heart of its land of origin, knowing that one day it will be sublimated to reveal its full potential.
From now on, our experienced and attentive eye will oversee every stage in the transformation of this precious material. Together with dedicated actors, experts in their field, we strive to reveal the unique qualities of Merino wool: its fineness, softness and thermoregulatory properties. From shearing to knitting, every gesture is designed to honor the raw material and create an exceptional product.
By embracing the principles of Wabi Sabi, where imperfection and the passage of time are sources of beauty, we give life to objects that don’t just decorate: they tell a story, that of nature and local know-how. Our Wabi Sabi plaids in 100% merino wool embody this subtle fusion of authenticity and modernity.
They are living objects that evolve and acquire a patina over time. By choosing Merino wool, we are choosing an eco-friendly production, rooted in tradition but resolutely focused on the future.
Studio Arcadie is not just a project, it’s a commitment to promoting a noble material and giving it a place of honor in contemporary interiors.
Come and discover in the Wabi-Sabi Lab how we magnify living matter and reunite nature with the art object. It’s this intimate relationship between breeding, matter and design that we want to share with you.
Our ambition: to create knitwear that lasts and inspires, to write our pastoral history in the world of tomorrow.
